Origin

Sichuan province is one of the birthplaces of tea trees in China, with a long history of tea production. The geographical features of Sichuan, which include highlands in the north and lowlands in the south, create ideal conditions for tea cultivation. The region is shielded from cold northern winds by the Qinling Mountains and the Daba Mountains. Moreover, the southeast-facing sea breeze can easily reach all corners of the basin. Sichuan experiences moderate rainfall, with an annual average of 1000-1300 millimeters, and a temperate climate with an average annual temperature of 17-18°C. The soil in tea gardens is typically mountain yellow soil and purple sandy soil. Tea gardens are generally situated at higher altitudes, making them less susceptible to drought, which is ideal for tea cultivation.

Sichuan Gongfu Black Tea is primarily produced in the southeastern part of Sichuan, covering areas such as Yibin, Jiangluo, Neijiang, Fuling, Chongqing, and Zigong. Tea trees in this region sprout early, approximately 39-40 days earlier than tea trees in the western part of Sichuan. The plucking season extends for 40-60 days, spanning over 210 days throughout the year. Autumn tea accounts for 26-30% of the annual yield.

Brewing Method

  1. Leaf Quantity: Use 3-5 grams of tea leaves for each cup.
  2. Rinse: The first step is to rinse the tea. Pour hot water quickly over the leaves and immediately discard the water. This helps to awaken the tea leaves and eliminate any impurities.
  3. Steeping Times: The steeping times can vary depending on personal preference, but a general guideline is as follows: 15 seconds for the first steep, followed by 25 seconds, 35 seconds, 45 seconds, 1 minute, 1 minute and 10 seconds, 1 minute and 20 seconds, 1 minute and 30 seconds, 2 minutes, and 2 minutes and 30 seconds for subsequent steeps.
  4. Teaware: For the best experience, use a glass teapot or tea cup that allows you to observe the tea leaves unfurl and infuse the water.
