Legend has it that in the first year of the Jiaqing Emperor’s reign (1796), a timber worker named Liang was caught in a mishap while floating timber rafts, leading to his drift to Nanjing. The following year, he and his wife returned to their hometown with tea seeds, purchased a stone cottage on the Xie family’s rocky hill, and started cultivating tea, marking the inception of Gou Gu Nao tea production.

In the fourth year of the Republic of China (1915), a tea merchant from Suichuan County named Li Yushan used fresh tea leaves from Gou Gu Nao Mountain to produce three different types of tea: Silver Needle, Sparrow’s Tongue, and Pearl Tea, each weighing one kilogram. These teas were sent to the Panama International Exposition held in San Francisco, where they received both a gold medal and a certificate from the international judging committee. This victory earned Gou Gu Nao Green Tea the title of “Top Green Tea.”

In the nineteenth year of the Republic of China (1930), Li Yushan’s grandson, Li Wenlong, renamed the tea “Yushan Tea” and exhibited it at the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Specialty Exhibition, where it received first-class recognition. These awards and the tea’s unique qualities contributed to the growing fame of Gou Gu Nao Green Tea. Over time, “Yushan Tea” was renamed “Gou Gu Nao Green Tea.”

Brewing Method
